"What Moves Your Heart?"
Dear Friends in Christ,
As the time in fall gets long and the days get short, we still have some programs planned for this fall and many in the winter months. Look at the list of programs on our Calendar of Events page and see which ones not only interest your mind, but what might be moving your heart. God often speaks to us through our hearts. Advent is quickly approaching and I invite you to consider spending an Advent Day of Prayer with Father Mike Simone on December 6.
I also want to extend a special invitation to spend a day or two at the Spiritual Life Center on a Private Retreat or Individual Directed Retreat. A Private Retreat is time and space for you to be with God. You can bring a spiritual book and allow your self to rest, relax and be renewed through prayer and reflection.
An Individual Directed Retreat is similar to a Private Retreat, except that you would meet with myself for Spiritual Direction each day and talk about what is going on in your prayer and your relationship with God. I would then make suggestions to guide your prayer for the following day. These retreats can last any length of time from a single day to several days depending upon your schedule.
The great thing about these retreats is that they can be scheduled at almost any time. We especially will have space in the late November through December time frame, since people’s busy lives prevent a retreat for a large group to be scheduled. I am beginning to think about the annual Summer Theology Institute and other programs for the spring and summer of 2009. I invite you to send me your ideas of possible topics and speakers. My email address is khemberger@slcwichita.org.

Many of you know the Spiritual Life Center to be a place for retreats, adult education programs and other Catholic events. But you may not know that the Center serves as host for a wide variety of groups and functions. Here is a short list of our guests for the month of October, followed by some of the groups and events we will host during November. It is our hope you will suggest the Center as an event destination for church and other non-profit groups and organizations you may know about.
Some of the Spiritual Life Center guests in October included: Heartland Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma Regional Leadership Institute, Bel Aire Community Chamber, Priests of the Diocese of Dodge City, Serra Club, South-Central Kansas Library System, Retrouvaille, Crossroads Church, Kansas Parish Nurses Conference, Diocese of Wichita staff Day of Reflection, United Way of the Plains, Catholic Bishops of Kansas, and many others!
Some of the Spiritual Life Center guests we expect in November include: The Episcopal Diocese of Kansas, Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church, The Office of Youth and Young Adults for the Diocese of Wichita, Via Christi Senior Services, Principals of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Wichita, Serra Club, New Pastors from the Diocese of Wichita, Spanish Marriage Encounter, Volunteers of the Spiritual Life Center, and many others! |

We look forward to hosting our wonderful volunteers for a special evening set for Wednesday, November 19. You will be our guest for an evening that begins with Mass at 5:30 p.m., followed by a social hour, dinner, entertainment and prayer.
If you wish, we will provide you with a complimentary room for your overnight stay and a continental breakfast the following morning. Invitations have been mailed with RSVP’s requested for regrets and overnight guests only—we hope to see you here!
Getting the Word out!
Many thanks to Spiritual Life Center volunteers: Laura Cummings (l), Pat Childs and Kate Pavlik who recently spent a morning stuffing envelopes and preparing a mailing to help publicize Father Kent’s upcoming retreat entitled “An Encounter With Jesus: The Way of Intimacy Through Prayer,” set for Friday, November 14 through Sunday, November 16, 2008.
